WHAT EXPECT
If you’re into awesome old stuff and want to see some of Egypt’s coolest ancient places without spending a ton, a private day trip from Hurghada to Abydos and Dendera is perfect for you! You’ll get to visit two famous temples where people worshipped gods and pharaohs thousands of years ago. You’ll also hear cool stories about Osiris, the Egyptian god, and the powerful rulers from way back.
An expert guide who knows all about Egypt will pick you up right from your hotel in Hurghada. Then, you’ll ride together to the Abydos Temple, which was once one of the most important places in the world. Get ready for a day packed with amazing history, fun facts, and lots of adventure!
Abydos Temple:
Abydos Temple is one of Egypt’s oldest and most important temples. It’s famous because it’s connected to Osiris, the ancient Egyptian god of the afterlife. When you go there, you can learn about the people who worshipped Osiris and even see where they believed the entrance to the underworld was. Nearby, there’s also the Temple of Seti, which has some of the most detailed and impressive carvings from the New Kingdom period. Visiting these temples is like walking straight into ancient Egyptian history!
Osireion Bath:
Hidden deep beneath the ground, about 18 meters down, the Osireion Bath sits behind the Temple of Seti I. This ancient spot was built right over natural underground springs, which are like secret water sources bubbling up from below. If you join the tour, you can choose to explore this mysterious place and learn cool facts about the powerful kings and queens who lived thousands of years ago.
Dendera Temple:
Next up, we’re heading to the Dendera Temple! This temple is really special because it’s one of the most well-preserved in Egypt. It was built way back when the Greeks and Romans were in charge, and it’s dedicated to Hathor, the goddess of love, joy, and music. Inside, you’ll spot incredible carvings showing Roman rulers with Egyptian gods, and there’s even a cool statue of Queen Cleopatra VII!
Once we’ve explored everything, we’ll get back in the car and return to Hurghada, our minds buzzing with all the amazing things we learned about Ancient Egypt. This is definitely a trip you won’t forget!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long is the travel time from Hurghada to Dendera and Abydos?
A: This is a full-day, deep-history excursion lasting approximately 14 to 15 hours. The drive from Hurghada to Dendera takes about 3 to 3.5 hours (~220 km) across the beautiful Red Sea desert mountains. From Dendera, we travel another 1.5 to 2 hours further north to reach Abydos before heading back to your resort in the evening.
Q: What is the recommended pickup time from our resort?
A: Because of the driving distance and to beat the midday crowds at the temples, pickup is early—usually around 5:00 AM. We highly recommend asking your hotel reception the evening before to prepare a complimentary breakfast box for you to take along in the car.
Q: Is this a private tour or a shared group bus?
A: This is a 100% private tour. You will have a private, modern, air-conditioned vehicle reserved exclusively for your party and your own dedicated, certified Egyptologist guide. The itinerary can be paced entirely to your liking.
Q: What are the highlights we will see inside the temples?
A: At Dendera, you will explore the exceptionally well-preserved Temple of Hathor, featuring its vibrant, colorful astronomical ceilings, mysterious underground crypts, and the famous relief of Queen Cleopatra VII. At Abydos, you will marvel at the high-relief carvings of the Temple of Seti I, the legendary Abydos King List, and the mysterious hieroglyphs famously nicknamed the “Abydos helicopter.”
Q: What should I wear and pack for the trip?
A: Wear lightweight, breathable, and modest clothing suitable for sacred ancient sites, along with highly comfortable walking shoes for uneven temple stone floors. Be sure to bring a sun hat, sunglasses, sunblock, a camera, and some cash (Egyptian Pounds) for personal expenses, drinks, or tipping.
Q: What is included in the tour price?
A: Your private tour includes door-to-door hotel pickup and drop-off anywhere in Hurghada, all entry tickets to the Dendera and Abydos temple complexes, a certified Egyptologist guide, bottled mineral water during transport, and a fresh lunch at a local restaurant. (Note: Soft drinks at lunch and tipping are extra).
