WHAT EXPECT
In the early morning, our team member will come to your hotel to take you on a day trip to Cairo. The drive from Hurghada to Cairo takes about 6 hours, so you can catch some sleep in your comfy, air-conditioned car on the way to Egypt’s capital. Remember to ask for a breakfast box from your hotel reception before you leave. Once we get to Cairo, we’ll go straight to The Grand Egyptian Museum.
The Grand Museum of Egyptian Antiquities – Cairo
In Giza, there’s an amazing place called the Egyptian Grand Museum, right near the famous Giza Pyramids. It’s huge—one of the biggest museums in the world—and it’s packed with cool stuff from all different times in Egypt’s history, from the very first pharaohs to when the Greeks and Romans were around. There are more than 100,000 things to see, including a bunch of treasures that belonged to King Tut! The building itself looks really modern but also has designs that remind you of ancient Egypt. After checking out all the cool exhibits, you can grab a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant and then go see the ancient pyramids, which are more than 4,500 years old!
Pyramids of Giza – Cairo
Check out the amazing Pyramid of Cheops, the last of the ancient wonders still standing! Don’t forget to look at its two smaller buddies, Khafre and Menkaure, right next to it. You can also see the cool Sphinx and the Valley Temple, which are both really close to the pyramids. These incredible structures were built a long time ago, during a time called the Fourth Dynasty in Egypt, around 2600 to 2500 BC. Plus, there are some old cemeteries and the remains of a village where the workers lived!
Great Sphinx – Cairo
The Great Sphinx of Giza is a limestone statue representing the reclining sphinx, a legendary creature with the top of a human and the frame of a lion. Oriented directly from west to east, it is located on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile River in Giza, Egypt. The Sphinx’s face seems to represent pharaoh Khafre. The original shape of the Sphinx was carved into the bedrock and has since been restored with layers of limestone blocks. It is 73 m (240 ft.) long from base to tail, 20 m (66 ft.) high from base to crown, and 19 m (62 ft.) wide at the rear haunches. His nose was broken for unknown reasons.
After finishing the tour, we will stop for some shopping before starting our journey back to Hurghada.
