Citadel of Salah El-Din
Next, we head to the ancient military building, Citadel of Salah El-Din, also known as Cairo Citadel; it is a historic fortress located on a hill in central Cairo, Egypt. It was built by Salah El-Din, the famous Muslim military leader and founder of the Ayyubid dynasty, in the 12th century to protect the city from Crusader attacks. You can explore well-preserved medieval architecture here, including mosques, palaces, and museums. One of the most iconic features of the Citadel is the Muhammad Ali Pasha Mosque, also known as the Alabaster Mosque, built in the 19th century. Its domes and minarets follow the style The distinctive Ottoman style makes it a notable landmark on the Cairo skyline. Lunch will be served at a local Egyptian restaurant.
Coptic Cairo
Next, we will visit a wonderful area of great historical and religious significance. The Hanging Church, also known as the Church of the Virgin Mary, is one of the oldest churches in Egypt and was built on the ruins of two previous churches. The Ben Ezra Synagogue is another important site in Coptic Cairo, said to have been built on the spot where baby Moses was found among the reeds by the Pharaoh’s daughter. The church of St. Barbara is dedicated to the Christian martyr St. Barbara and features beautiful Coptic artwork and decorations. Abu Serga Church, also known as the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, is one of the oldest churches in Cairo and is said to have been built on the spot where the Holy Family rested during their flight to Egypt.
Khan El Khalili Bazaar
This bustling market is a maze of narrow alleys filled with shops selling everything from spices and textiles to jewelry and souvenirs. As you stroll around the maze of stalls, you’ll be surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of Cairo’s bustling street life. Khan El Khalili is not just a place to shop but also a window into Egypt’s rich history and culture. The market has been a center of trade and commerce for centuries, attracting merchants and tourists from all over the world. Today, it remains a popular destination for both Egyptians and tourists. After exploring these historical sites, we will take you back to your hotel with unforgettable memories.
