Saint Paul Monastery:
The first stop on the tour is the Saint Paul Monastery, located about three hours north of Hurghada. Set against the cliffs of the Eastern Desert plateau, the monastery is home to caves where the hermit Saint Paul lived, as well as several churches featuring stunning frescos. The site has great significance for Coptic Christians, and you can learn about its history from the monke guide in monastery.
Saint Anthony Monastery:
The tour continues south for about half an hour to the Monastery of Saint Anthony. Established in the fourth century AD, it is the oldest monastery in Egypt and one of the oldest in the world. It is still a working monastery, and many Coptic Christians come for religious retreats.
The monastery is home to several striking churches, a library, and the tiny cave where Saint Anthony lived as a hermit. You can explore the site and learn more about the saint’s story before taking the time to enjoy lunch and the dramatic desert scenery.
